Chapter 15

The sky crackles with lightning, the electricity flowing through the night air. Colton grabs my hand and we run for cover as the sky pelts us with rain. He squeezes my hand as he pulls me under the awning of the gazebo. Panting, we both draw in short breaths from our sprint across the field.

“Well that was fun,” I sarcastically say while ringing the excess water from my hair. Colton’s heated gaze roams over the shirt that’s plastered to my skin. “Like what you see, Graves?”

His gaze rises to my face and with lowered lashes he moves forward, closing the space between us. His black t-shirt pulls tightly against his muscles and it only accentuates my desire for him. “Sweetheart, not only do I like what I see, but I love who I see,” he huskily breathes against my lips.

Goosebumps spread along my skin, bringing each tiny nerve-ending to life. I run my hand over his hard chest, up his neck, and give his hair a gentle tug. His sharp intake of breath gives me the reaction I crave. My legs shake with anticipation. His arms wrap around my waist and pull me into his body. His hardness presses into my core and sets off fireworks in my heart. My eyes roam over his features and settle on the thick lashes covering his electric-blue eyes. Pushing myself on my tip-toes, I brush my lips against his. Tiny electric waves pass between our light touch.

He closes his eyes and clenches his jaw. “Ash, if you keep pushing me I won’t be able to stop. There’s only so much a guy can take before he needs more.” His strained voice sends excitement through my body.

The control I have with just one touch empowers me. Gently, I swipe my tongue along his lower lip. He shudders in my arms. “I don’t want you to stop,” I entice.

His eyes flare open and his hands fist into the back of my shirt. “Don’t. My control is slipping and with words like that you’re testing my strength. I promised you I wouldn’t do anything until you were ready. I’m not breaking promises, Ash.”

A frustrated moan slips past my lips, causing his face to fall in pain. His control is slipping fast; if I push a little harder it will completely collapse. Is this something I’m ready for? Am I ready for that commitment? I freeze, lost in thought.

His hand moves along my side, settling in my hair. Tilting my head sideways, he watches me. “I can see it in your eyes, Ash. I know you’re not ready and it’s okay. I’ll wait until the end of time for you. Please don’t push yourself to do something just because you think that’s what I want.” He places a gentle kiss on my forehead and traces kisses down my cheek. If I move just a millimeter our lips will fuse. Biting my lip, I try to stop the urge to turn into him. Desire and hesitation battle in my mind.
